A Message from The Captain

What an honour and privilege it is to serve as The Burstead Senior’s Captain for 2018, and I thank all the Seniors' members for electing me. Larry Lauezzari will be acting as my vice captain for the year, and I look forward to working with him to ensure that it is an enjoyable experience for everyone.

I am also looking forward to working with the elected committee who do such an brilliant job of running the Seniors section, which is the envy of many other clubs throughout the county.

The seniors section meet every Tuesday to play sociable golf with the emphasis on having fun, there are many team and individual games and there are eighteen qualifying games (so handicaps can be adjusted throughout the year) planned from March to December.

We also have very well attended 'away days' at other clubs at least twice a year, the March one this year is to be held at Chigwell. Another well attended function is our annual 3-day 'tour' that is organised during June, this year we are going to Stoke by Nayland on the Essex/Suffolk border.

On a more friendly/competitive note, we will be playing 12 inter-club matches, home and away, locally and around Essex (a full fixture list can be viewed on our Fixtures page).

We have many social events throughout the year, which include a Summer BBQ/Quiz night, two Sunday Lunches, and ending the year with the annual Ladies night dinner and dance.

The Section raises money for Charity throughout the year, the Charity is nominated by the Captain, and this year my Charity is for DKMS – Delete Blood Cancer.

I thank everyone involved with the organisation and smooth running of the section.

And here's wishing you all a good golfing, healthy and enjoyable 2018.

Tom Sterry MBE - Senior's Captain 2018
